There are so many distinct and different flavours of personal trauma that lead people to crave surrendering to ideology. We live in the era of incompatible belief systems. Incompatible around climate change, abortion, anti-Vaxxers, Trans activists vs Feminists, atheists vs religious extremists. We always think the “other side” are the con-artists/psychos, and they think we’re the con-artists/psychos. As someone who left America because of Trump only to end up returning to England during Brexit, I am fascinated by the short, intense relationship between Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and Harry Houdini.
